First time in Goa Hase-kale Painting workshop by Mr. Radhakrishna Bannagudde was held from 7th to 9th February 2014. Hase-kale or Chittara Art, is a unique folk-art traditionally practiced by women of the Deevaru community of Shimoga in Karnataka. It’s usually done on walls. The workshop aims at popularizing this art form on other platforms like greeting cards, glass painting, etc.
As part of the Curtain Raiser programmes of GALF – 2014, ICG in association with Goa Writers Group organised a Poetry Reading followed by Interactions with Prof. Edwin Nadason Thumboo, one of Singapore’s most distinguished poets, on 1st February 2014. Prof. Thumboo spoke about the history of Singapore and its association with other South East Asian as well as South Asian countries.
Live Book App Readings led by Jugneeta Sudan was held on 25th January 2014. Live Book App Readings, especially designed for English literature college students and book-lovers involving virtual tours of historical, social and political settings in the book. The readings entail the study of the author, the plot, the technique and themes in the book.

As part of the ICG Lecture Series by Eminent Persons, Ambassador Rakesh Sood delivered a Lecture on ‘Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Policy of India’ on 24th January 2014. Amb. Sood is Special Envoy of the Prime Minister (SEPM) for Disarmament & Non-Proliferation Issues – Prime Minister’s Office and Former Ambassador to Afghanistan, Nepal & France. The Session, held in association with the Goa University, was chaired by Dr. Aparajita Gangopadhayay, Head, Centre for Latin American Studies, Goa University. In the beginning, Ms. Nandini Sahai, Director – ICG welcomed the guests and introduced Amb. Sood. The talk was attended by Hon. Governor of Goa, Shri B V Wanchoo, officers of Indian Navy, Indian Army, faculty and students of Goa University and its affiliated colleges, media and members of civil society. Book Discussion on Jagtana… While leaving (a multi-lingual way of expression) was held on 22nd January 2014. “Jagtana… While leaving” by Prof. Neeta R Torne’s is collection of Marathi poems translated into Konkani, Hindi & English by Priyanka P Parab, Sneha Parab, Archana Gaitonde, Antra Bhide, Subhash Y Kamakar & Neha S Wader, released at the GALF – 2013.

The 1st ICG-Goa University Essay Competition 2014 – under the newly created banner “IDEAS UNLEASHED” was launched at a Press Conference, on 11th January 2014 by Dr. Raghunath A Mashelkar, National Research Professor and Dr. Satish Shetye, Vice-Chancellor of Goa University. The logo, poster and rules of the Competition were also released at this Press Conference. Mr. Yatin Kakodkar – President of the Board of Trustees of ICG and Ms. Nandini Sahai – Director of ICG were also present. The topic for essay competition is “Innovative Ideas for Raising Goa’s Human Development Index to the Very High Human Development Group Level By 2025: Role of Government and Society”.
