Maitreesh Ghatak (PhD, Harvard University) studied at Presidency College, Kolkata and the Delhi School of Economics before completing his PhD. He taught at the Department of economics, University of Chicago, before joining LSE in 2004 as a professor. His research interests include microfinance, property rights, collective action, and the economics of NGOs and non-profits. At LSE, he directs the research group Economic Organization and Public Policy (EOPP) and is the Lead Economist of the International Growth Centre’s India (Bihar) programme. In July 2018, Professor Ghatak was elected Fellow of the British Academy (FBA).
