ICG Scholars-In-Residence Programme 2026
ICG selected Kanupriya Dhingra and Rituparna Patgiri for the 2026 Scholars-in-Residence award
Kanupriya Dhingra is an assistant professor and Assistant Dean (International Collaborations) at BML Munjal University. A scholar of book history, urban cultures, and print worlds in South Asia, her work explores the social life of books and the infrastructures that sustain reading beyond formal institutions. Her first book Old Delhi’s Parallel Book Bazaar (Cambridge University Press, 2024) offers an intimate ethnography of Delhi’s Daryaganj Sunday Book Market. Dhingra is also engaged in creative and trade publishing. The Sunday Book Bazaar: Daryaganj and the Making of a Reading Public in Delhi (Speaking Tiger, 2026) grew out of her long engagement with the Daryaganj Sunday Book Bazaar and is written for a wider, non-specialist readership. She has also written for Comparative Critical Studies, The Caravan, Seminar, Scroll, and Himal SouthAsian and writes and translates poetry and fiction from Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.
Book Project: Delhi’s Book Street and the Cultures of Reading
Rituparna Patgiri is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati. She has been a recipient of the International Centre Goa’s (ICG) Scholars-in-residence award, the Krishna Raj Fellowship, the Zubaan-Sasakawa Peace Foundation Grant for Young Researchers from the Northeast, the Wenner-Gren Foundation Grant, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati Start-Up Grant and the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Grant. Her research interests lie in exploring questions of culture, food, media, gender and pedagogy. Patgiri is passionate about making academic knowledge accessible to the public and co-founded Doing Sociology. She served as Associate Editor of Society, a Springer Nature journal from 2023 to 2025. Currently, she is a guest Academic Editor at PLOS Global Public Health. Patgiri is the Convenor of the Ad Hoc Group 01 – Food, Culture and Society of the Indian Sociological Society (ISS). She has three published or edited books to her credit: Food, Culture and Society in India: Social, Political, Economic and Cultural Perspectives (Berghahn Books, 2025), Sociology of Gender in India: Contemporary Issues and Perspectives (Cambridge University Press, 2026), and Mobile Theatre of Assam: Public Culture, Counter-Public and Consumption (Routledge, 2026).

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
The International Centre Goa (ICG) invites academics, journalists, writers and others to apply for the ICG Scholars-in-Residence Programme 2026. ICG will select one or more applicants to spend 30 days at ICG to work on her book project.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be residents of India;
- Applicants must be currently writing/completing a book manuscript or any other scholarly/literary work; and
- Applicants must be able to convincingly show in their application their progress in the ongoing project (1-2 book chapters or some other documentation).
NOTE: The programme is not open to those who are yet to begin work on a project.
How To Apply?
- A short bio (1-2 pages);
- Description of book project (max. 2 pages); and
- Sample writing (one or two chapters from the ongoing book project).

Terms and conditions
- The ICG Scholars-in-Residence programme will cover the following expenses:
- Return air travel (economy);
- Complimentary accommodation for self (and spouse/partner) at ICG for 30 days;
- A stipend of Rs. 4,000 per day for the 30-day period; and
- Food coupon of Rs. 25,000 for meals at ICG’s restaurant for the duration of stay.
