Saeed Naqvi is a veteran Indian journalist with a long career as a reporter and columnist on domestic politics and foreign affairs. He has traveled to over 100 countries and through the length and breadth of India for his reportage and writings. Mr. Naqvi covered the 1971 war with Pakistan, Sino-Vietnam war (1979), US bombing of Libya (1986), Operation Desert Storm (1991), the US occupations of Afghanistan (2002) and Iraq (2003) and the Syrian civil war (2011). He has conducted long-format TV interviews with world states men like Nelson Mandela, Michail Gorbachev, Kofi Annan, Ban Ki-Moon, Yitzhak Rabin, Shimon Peres, Benjamin Netanyahu, Hashemi Rafsanjani, Hosni Mubarak, Saddam Hussain, Muammar Qaddafi, Fidel Castro, Henry Kissinger, Mahathir Mohammad, Benazir Bhutto, Parvez Musharraf, Hamid Karzai, Romano Prodi, Jacques Chirac and many others. He has worked as Editor, Foreign Editor, and Foreign Correspondent for Indian Express and The Statesman and written for a range of foreign publications like the New York Times. The Guardian, Washington Post and others. He was the Founder-editor of World Report, a pioneering effort that did path-breaking work in foreign news coverage from an Indian perspective from 1986 to 2004. Mr Naqvi has lectured at several universities and think tanks in India and abroad and was a Parvin Fellow at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Princeton University. He is the author of three books: Reflections of an Indian Muslim (1992): The Last Brahmin Prime Minister (1996); and Being the other: The Muslim in India (2016). A play – The Muslim Vanishes –was published earlier this year. In addition, Mr. Naqvi has produced a three-part DVD series on the History of Hindustani Classical Music and 35 short films on India’s composite culture. He attended school at La Martiniere (Lucknow), college at Delhi University and later studied at the Thomson School of journalism, Cardiff, UK.
