“The Stitched Ship Project: Reviving an Indian Ocean Tradition” by Mr Sanjeev Sanyal & Captain Saleh Said Mohammed Al Jabri

Sanjeev Sanyal is a Member of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council (EAC-PM) and was earlier the Principal Economic Adviser to the Finance Minister of India. Mr. Sanyal writes regularly in leading national and international publications and is the author of several best-selling books including The Ocean of Churn: How the Indian Ocean Shaped Indian History (Viking, 2016). He is an alumnus of the Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Delhi and later attended Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar.

Captain Saleh Al Jabri is a highly qualified and experienced sailor and navigator. He served for many years as a Royal Naval Officer and has extensive sailing experience with the Royal Navy of Oman and with Oman Sail. He cares deeply about raising awareness of Oman’s maritime heritage among young Omanis. In 2010, he famously captained the “Jewel of Muscat,” a copy of an Omani trading vessel discovered wrecked off the coast of Indonesia in1998, on a five-month voyage from Muscat to Singapore. Captain Saleh has received two awards in recognition of his services to Oman from His Majesty Late Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
