South Asia Study Group was launched consisting of young members from academia, business, NGOs and media. The main objective of the group, which expects to meet regularly, is to discuss local, national and global issues relating to South Asia from a multidisciplinary perspective. The group strives to become a regular forum for discussion on South Asian issues and shall also strive to generate greater interest and awareness on South Asia in Goa and the region. The Project team has prepared a South Asia fact-sheet which will be useful for students, researchers and the lay public interested on South Asia in general.

Several events have been organized by the Group so far, which have included a brainstorming session on aims and objectives of the group, a talk by former Ambassadors C V Ranganathan and Deb Mukherjee on India and Her Neighbours, and a discussion on an Article on Civil Society and its institutions by renowned Sociologist Prof. Andre Beteille.

The presentation was made by Dr. Rahul Tripathi, Project Director and Mr. Joel D'Silva, Research Associate. The talk included an audio-visual presentation on the recent happenings in Nepal where the popular movement against Monarchy has led to a realignment of political forces in the country. It also focused on the challenges before the new government which has the twin tasks of national consolidation and political reconciliation with the Maoists, failing which there could be another round of uncertainty in the landlocked nation. It also analysed India's role and options in this context.

The presentation was well attended and followed by an intense discussion.
