She has also been concerned with questions of pedagogy in general and the teaching and learning of history in particular. Her publications include The Emergence of Monarchy in North India, The Power of Gender and the Gender of Power and A Historical Dictionary of Ancient India. She has been a member of teams developing textbooks for schools under the the aegis of the Delhi SCERT and the NCERT.

Synopsis :  The presentation will focus on diverse locations of history as a discipline within institutions of higher education at present. Prof. Roy will examine how the discipline is perceived by those within the formal education system and will explore the perceptions of post graduate teachers in history, those of young research scholars (not necessarily specializing in history) as well as student and teachers who are directly engaged in teaching and learning history. There are certain broad concerns that frame the discussion. These include the significance of history as a discipline, contexts of diversity and intersectionalities in terms of class, caste, gender/ sexual orientation, religious and regional identities, and the structuring of formal education in terms of overt and hidden curricular, and issues of language and modes of assessment. Some of these surface as running strands in the discussion.
