ICG 2020s Development Dialogue invites eminent personalities from around the world to share their views on reshaping the new world in the decade of 2020s.

The International Centre Goa (ICG) is privileged to present Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, Government of India in its ICG 2020s Development Dialogue series.

Dr. S. Jaishankar is Minister of External Affairs, Government of India and a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was earlier President – Global Corporate Affairs at Tata Sons Private Limited. A career diplomat, Dr. Jaishankar served as Foreign Secretary (2015-18), Ambassador to United States (2013-15), Ambassador to China (2009-13), High Commissioner to Singapore (2007-09) and Ambassador to the Czech Republic (2000-04). He has also served in other diplomatic assignments at Indian embassies in Moscow, Colombo, Budapest and Tokyo, as well in the Ministry of External Affairs and the President’s Secretariat. His book The India Way: Strategies for an Uncertain World (HarperCollins) was published in 2020. Dr. Jaishankar was awarded the Padma Shri in 2019.

Dr. Jaishankar will be in discussion with Mr. Dattaraj Salgaocar, Vice-President, The International Centre Goa (ICG) to talk about the various kinds of transformations – geopolitical, economic, military and others – that have taken place in the international system and the new challenges that have emerged therefrom for India.

The discussion will highlight Dr. Jaishankar’s recent book The India Way and cover themes such as India’s relationships with the great powers, notably the US and China; India’s relations with its neighbours; old and new security challenges; and India’s quest for great power status.
