ICG 2020s Development Dialogue invites eminent personalities from around the world to share their views on reshaping the new world in the decade of 2020s.

Dr. K. Kasturirangan is Chancellor, Central University of Rajasthan; Chairman, Governing Board, Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA); Chairperson, NIIT University, Neemrana; Member, Atomic Energy Commission; and Emeritus Professor at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS), Bangalore. He was earlier Chairman of ISRO and oversaw India’s space programme between 1994 and 2003. He was a Member, Rajya Sabha (2003-09) and later served as Member of the erstwhile Planning Commission (2009-14). More recently, he was the Chairman of the Committee that drafted the new National Education Policy (2017-18). He has won several awards notably the Brock Medal (2004), Allan D. Emil Memorial Award (2004), Theodore Von Karman Award (2007) and Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award (1983). Dr. Kasturirangan is the recipient of all three of India’s highest civilian honours: Padma Shri (1982), Padma Bhushan (1992) and Padma Vibhushan (2000).

Dr. K. Kasturirangan, former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), was the Chairman of the Committee for Draft National Education Policy which prepared the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. It is a great honour for The International Centre Goa (ICG) that he has accepted to speak with Mr. Dattaraj Salgaocar, Vice-President, ICG on NEP for the 7th ICG 2020s Development Dialogue.

NEP 2020 is a progressive document with the potential to transform India’s education sector. It is ambitious in its scope and envisages dramatic and innovative reforms at both the school and college levels. Dr. Kasturirangan will address a wide range of questions on NEP and highlight how the country’s education system can be aligned with the needs of the 21st century even as it remains solidly anchored in India’s traditions and values.
